A physicians primary concern may be for the health of their patients but Ike Devji, JD, in an article posted to Physicians Practice entitled “Bare Bones Legal and Financial Documents: a Checklist for Physicians” encourages physician’s to take time to ensure their document health is in order. Dr. Devji encourages physicians to have their most requested documents in order and on hand to avoid additional stress in their busy lives while ensuring ease of access to those documents.

The list of vital physician documents includes,

  • Passports
  • Copies of important documentation
  • Insurance Policies
  • Essential Corporate and       Business Statements
  • Mortgages and Deeds
  • Medical and Prescription Records
  • Estate Plan

While the safety of important documents against theft and fire are paramount, equally important may be ease of access which is not provided through safety deposit boxes and an at home safe. While keeping the originals in such protected environments may make sense, a copy of such documents to an encrypted thumb drive can provide security and ease of access for the busy physician.
